About Us
It all began in 1991 with MontClaire Manor. Founder Claire Nolan had experienced the power of home care first-hand as the primary caretaker for her mother. Claire later worked in nursing homes where her vision came into sharp focus.

MontClaire Manor, and later Fernbrook Manor & Jones Acres, were borne from a desire to provide families with a non-hospital-like, clinical setting that is caring, controlled, loving and comfortable. Over the last 20 years, we have served Maryland families and most often work with residents that have significant issues; whether related to dementia or a medical diagnosis.
We provide a full spectrum of daily services and string together moments of joy each day to ensure our residents continue to experience quality of life amidst the challenges of aging.
Our Care
1:2 Caretaker-to-Resident Ratio
We cannot praise our staff enough. Their clinical proficiency, along with their sincere ability and intuition to provide individualized care, activities and one-on-one attention makes them the greatest staff in private assisted living. They are the reason why our facilities are known as an exceptional value.
Lowest Community Fee in the Area
We are here to help families, not to take advantage of people in the throes of a family crisis. That is why our monthly rates are among the most reasonable in the area and we only charge a minimal community fee to cover our admission expenses.
Experienced, Long-term Staff
We have experienced little to no turnover in our more than 20 years of operation. In fact, many of our staff members have been with our team for that entire time. Our staff understands their great value and each team member has been hand-picked due to their remarkable dedication and knowledge.
Assisted Living
3 meals a day plus snacks, all food is fresh and prepared by experienced cooks
24-hour supervision
Assistance with all activities of daily living
Monthly physician visits, as well as frequent Nurse Practitioner visits
Physical therapy and occupational therapy offered
Regular podiatrist and hairdresser services provided
Full-time Activity Coordinator keeping residents engaged, as well as a wonderful group of volunteers
A long list of daily & weekly activities offered including individualized activities, outdoor walking and relaxation, music, books on tape, one-on-one beauty rituals such as manicures
Specialized Dementia Care
People with dementia do not experience the world in the same way others do. Our homes and the services we provide are carefully planned with this in mind. We have created an environment that can adapt to dementia-related behaviors and we follow all guidelines and protocols in accordance with Function-focused Care.

Function-focused Care is a care philosophy that encourages independence and movement among dementia patients. Dr. Elizabeth Galik from the University of MD is an expert in Function-focused Care and visits our facilities as often as needed to evaluate residents and help manage difficult behaviors.
We also work in close partnership with Sheppard Pratt in receiving dementia-related referrals. We pride ourselves on the level of care we offer residents and families that struggle with dementia.
